Biography & Journey

Born 15 August 1975 in Bela-Bela, Limpopo, Lourens grew up in Johannesburg and matriculated at Goudrif High (1994). In 1995, he began his career at CP De Leeuw Appraisers under his uncle’s guidance, specializing in mass appraisal. This field later became one of his lifelong areas of expertise.

After building and rebuilding six different companies, he founded UNIQUECO Property Valuers, where he remains Managing Director. His career reflects resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering passion for valuation. 

A colleague once surveyed Nel and categorised his personality under INFJ – Advocate, stating Nel is an idealistic person. Purpose-driven and empathetic. His strengths are creativity, insightful, decisive, determined, and altruistic. And his weakness being perhaps somewhat sensitive, private, a perfectionist. And easily burned out.

And for balance in a stressful career, husband and father to a son and stepdaughter, Nel enjoys traveling, fly fishing, sailing, golf, the outdoors, and even singing.

His 50th Birthday Anecdote – “Die geeletjie is nou op die pens. My seun vra my die ander dag, gaan ek vir my 50ste tattoos kry. Sê toe yes, op my pens gaan ek skryf: No more wine farm. No more Ferrari. No more sailing around the world. No retirement at the age of 50 – LOL.”
